My response to #RFK: Until you came around, I'd never heard of #spasmodic #dysphonia so clearly it's fake. He should stop faking. That's how it works, right? He's just being #woke, right?
I've had writer's block before; this is not that. It's like the words are on a high shelf, or in some obscure fog. Even looking at what I wrote now, the words seem strange and foreign. I speak about 2 dozen words a day. I communicate mostly through memes, GIFs, or emojis, when I communicate at all. #dysphonia, #FND

Do you have questions about sensation and perception, hearing and hearing loss, aural/oral communication disorders, or sensory aids?

Reply to this toot and I'll answer it as best as I can. Please note I'm not a medical doctor so I can't give you specific medical advice.

About 12% of active-duty service members have dysphonia at any given time. No, not dysphoria (although... maybe...). #Dysphonia. A #voice disorder.

Neat.

More sensory stuff:

Shirts want to kill me, I can feel every seam. Random smells, ie trying to cook dinner and the plant nearby smells like I jammed my head in a bag of potting soil. High piano notes are like a tin can banging against my head. The water from the shower feels like needles hitting my legs. Trying to talk on the phone disorients, making my face, arms, and soles of my feet tingle. Just lots of super fun. #dysphonia, #fnd

The kids and I had a great time at the show. I bought a shirt from the opening act. It has that unreadable metal font, a skeleton, some atomic explosions; everything you need in a rock tee. The band member who sold it to me was very kind & understanding with my #dysphonia. Unfortunately, touching the shirt I knew instantly it was going to be too uncomfortable due to my #sensory issues. I'm wearing it now and the neck is making me insane. Going to cut the neck and sleeves out, for "aesthetics".

I did go out last night. The meetup turned out to be an actual party, and although I still arrived late, it was far too early and only two people were there. I awkwardly tried to make conversation, but they weren't so receptive. I'm assuming good intentions, that since they are film fans, they are also socially awkward, so it's fine, but I left early and cringed all night afterwards wishing I had just stayed home.

Might stop in at my old workplace tonight for a film fest meetup, but I don't know. Being in public is hard when speaking is difficult. So many people that'll need an explanation for my disorder. I don't want to isolate myself, but staying home is just so damn easy.
