New neuroscience research upends traditional theories of early language learning in babies

The findings challenge traditional theories of language acquisition that emphasize the rapid learning of phonetic elements. Instead, the study suggests that the individual sounds of speech are not processed reliably until around seven months, and the addition of these sounds into language is a gradual process.

New neuroscience research upends traditional theories of early language learning in babies

New research reveals that infants primarily learn language through rhythm rather than individual sounds, challenging traditional theories. The study emphasizes the importance of rhythmic speech patterns, like nursery rhymes, in early language development.

I conducted a multi-site survey of communication disorders in active-duty service members and estimated the prevalence of voice problems (11.7%). Some surprising risk factors for dysphonia: cadmium exposure and self-reported changes in hearing.

You should believe your disabled friends and colleagues when they tell you how crap the world can be.

You should also try empathy building exercises. Here are some examples, please add your own in the comments:"

"Examining the Effects of Background Noise on Contextualized Word Learning"

Caitlin A. Ross, PhD, West Virginia University, 2021

"Previous studies have examined isolated word learning and some studies have manipulated noise levels. Yet, few, if any, studies have experimentally examined “real-life” noise effects on vocabulary learning when more contextual information is available to facilitate learning."

Wow, prior art from 1973! It is someone's PhD dissertation. I don't know if I was previously aware of a P. W. Stevenson. I cannot figure out the full name.

Hello #Auditory #Science folks, do you know who this is? I believe they got their PhD from the University of #Essex
