Side note: apparently some #System76 laptops don't *have* any such thing as a BIOS password or similar locking mechanism.

Good. Perhaps that will be the manufacturer of my next laptop.

Judging by its frequency of 2FA requests for same computer, same browser, same session, #PayPal is not yet convinced that this upstart os I'm using in my new #System76 machine is wholly legit.

Took apart my Gazelle from #System76. The battery was swelled, so took it out and working on wall power for now. I will get a new one later on.

Put a second NVMe too. Got a 500G one put in the second slots and setup in the /etc/fstab.

Now I can keep collecting ISOs like I have a reason. Always think I will get time to try a new one.

COSMIC Desktop 1.0.9 improves performance, hardens greeter security, and delivers fixes and enhancements across Files, Settings, Store, and more.

Captain’s Log: System Upgrade Complete. 🖖🛰️

Pushed the engines to Warp Factor 9 with the #COSMIC Desktop. Moving my dev workflow to a Rust-based DE has been a revelation in speed and stability. 🐧🦀

In this log:
🔹 Ergonomics of auto-tiling
🔹 Building a workflow that stays out of your way
🔹 Performance as a feature

It’s the first time a Linux desktop has felt this intentional. Come see the bridge config:

Warp Factor 9: My Daily Dev Workflow on the COSMIC Desktop - dominickm.com

Captain’s Log, Stardate 2026.86. Back in February, I made a bold claim: 2026 is the Year of the Linux Desktop, and opinionated software like COSMIC is the warp drive we’ve been waiting for. It’s one thing to talk about theoretical warp speeds in a review, but it’s another to actually sit in the captain’s chair, […]
