Glorious day out, though rather cold in the shaded forest where we started but once up the hill and out of the woods it was perfect. The trail lead along a valley and up to a peak where we got a clear view of snowy capped Pyrenees mountains.

It's hard to get tired of these mountains and we are yet to enter our favorite valley.

EDIT: I realize this probably seems like a dramatic way to word this, but it's honestly been about ten years at this point since I've worn anything other than heavy boots; even these are a step down from what I've normally worn over that time (they're the first I've had since I-don't-even-know-when that are soft-toed).  I don't even remember what it's like to wear normal shoes, and I've never tried anything like this.  I don't run, FWIW, so I really don't care if they suck to run in; I don't.  I'm 32, and my feet don't hurt, and a whole lot of things above my feet hurt.  If the barefoot shoe people are right, maybe that's the reason.  If those people are wrong, I go back to my boots and I'm back where I started.  Simple as that.

EDIT 2: and before someone may ask, no, actually; I've never had a job in which boots (never mind steel toes) are required, or even expected, and in all honesty I probably never will.  This has always just been my personal preference, for whatever reason.

Probably the next most extreme change I've ever considered after what operating system I use, honestly…

The picture attached is of my current boots.  I'm not planning on giving them up; if this little experiment fails, which it might, I'll go back to them.

Okay, so, I just ordered barefoot shoes: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09ZPYBB27/

Not my thing but I know someone of you love barefoot running.
Hope this is useful.

They’re the divisive footwear that many swear by, but which barefoot shoes are comfy enough for running and hiking? Our writer spent three months finding out

As we set out for today's run a tannoy was letting us know that a little market stall had just set up with pain, fromage etc. When we arrived back through the village I was treated to this view. And left with some pain de la nuil, pain au chocolate, croissant, local miel et six oeufs. Now a cup of Yorkshire tea, legs up and a afternoon of the Hell of the North bicycling

Good morning 🌞

Set a later alarm this morning, got 8hrs sleep - got up, sorted out three hungry felines, did a flat white for the other half, then stretched and went for my run.

Bright sunshine, 22°c @ 8am, I managed to forget my running cap, and only noticed I wasn't wearing it about a km in, which meant sweat in the eyes later on, always the downside of warm running is one very moist human 😅

Logged my 600th km for the year so far today.

Managed to get out and run before the HOT hit, 26c due today. Though not as much running as hoped since a recent storm has washed away most of the 3km downhill path. That I had hoped to enjoy running. It was just a steep "valley" with lose stone sides, that gave way nearly with every step, and the bottom was narrower than my foot. Had to navigate to a forest road using an animal track which Paddy enjoyed. Tomorrow it will be cooler and we will go hide somewhere the snow isn't due to fall.

Good morning 🌞

An absolutely sensational sunrise this morning, the colours took my breath away, and I'm not sure my shitty phone camera did it justice...still we try.

The sun was coming up as I ran up Mgarr hill, I've never run up this hill (only down it) It's definitely harder going up... 😂 The OZ Engineering sign made me think of the Starship Enterprise.

So, 15km - inc my fastest 5km of 2026 to begin. I need coffee now.

Well thanks to the Orange Loon who is keen on world destruction, sleep didn't reach the required hours last night. Therefore I was somewhat happy that a storm had caused loads of fallen trees and branches in the forest, so it was more walking than running. Though it felt more like a tough mudder event, bar the mud. So I got a full body workout with all the ducking and climbing through and over fallen trees. I even stepped on one branch with my left foot, this lifted it up and I wacked my right shin hard as I was bringing my right leg forward. I bailed out and took the road instead of "crawling" through the rest of the forest trails. This is where I took my ear pods out, so I could hear the traffic easier, and learned back at HQ that I have a hole in my secure zipped up pocket... I need a siesta, do they do them in France too?

Last run in that there Spanish Spain before we head over into that there French France for some running there. So take care of Spain for me until me and Paddy boy are back.

Good morning 🌞

Long easy below aerobic threshold run this morning, on the asphalt trail. The morning started in the dark with a heavy sea fog worthy of James Herberts novel - so thick and wet that it hugged you, you almost couldn't see your hand in front of your face. The roads were awash with freezing water as if a quick storm had rolled past, then when the sun came up it was a perfect cloudless blue sky for the back half of my run home.
