LA NOTIZIA: Nato e Ue danno il benservito a Trump: “Nessun intervento militare nello Stretto di Hormuz”
L’appello di Donald Trump resterà inascoltato. Il tentativo di coinvolgere le forze Nato nella difesa dello Stretto di Hormuz viene rispedito al mittente da quasi tutti i Paesi coinvolti, con ben poche eccezioni (a partire dal silenzio dell’Italia). Trump ha detto che sarebbe “molto negativo per la Nato” un eventuale rifiuto dell’invio di navi militari nello Stretto.
Eppure finora il presidente degli Stati Uniti ha raccolto solamente risposte negative o silenzi. A partire dai Paesi dell’Alleanza, che hanno chiaramente detto che non ci sarà alcuna operazione militare dell’Alleanza. E a confermarlo è stata anche l’Ue, che non vuole neppure allargare l’operazione Aspides alla guerra in Iran.
Stretto di Hormuz, Nato e Ue contro Trump
La Nato non interverrà, come confermato anche dall’Alto rappresentante per la politica estera dell’Ue, Kaja Kallas: “Questo è davvero al di fuori dell’area d’azione della Nato”. Anche perché l’Ue ha altri strumenti in campo, come l’operazione Aspides, che però “è al di fuori dei territori della Nato, non ci sono Paesi Nato nello Stretto di Hormuz”.
Anche il premier britannico, Keir Starmer, lo dice chiaramente: la riapertura dello Stretto di Hormuz non può essere affidata “a una missione della Nato”. Ma anche da Berlino lo scetticismo sulla proposta di Trump è evidente: “Non mi sembra che la Nato abbia preso una decisione né che possa assumersi la responsabilità per lo Stretto di Hormuz”, come spiega il ministro degli Esteri tedesco, Johann Wadephul. E contraria a una missione militare è anche la Spagna, che ribadisce di considerare “illegale” la guerra in Iran.
Anche la Grecia ha confermato che non parteciperà ad azioni militari a Hormuz. Nessuna modifica neanche al mandato di Aspides, secondo il ministro degli Esteri spagnolo, Josè Manuel Albares. D’altronde anche per il ministro degli Esteri italiano, Antonio Tajani, è “complesso” pensare di cambiare il mandato di Aspides per includere l’intervento nello Stretto di Hormuz.

Donald Trump’s appeal will go unanswered. The attempt to involve NATO forces in the defense of the Strait of Hormuz is being sent back to sender by almost all participating countries, with very few exceptions (starting with Italy’s silence). Trump said it would be “very negative for NATO” if an invitation to send military ships through the Strait was refused.
However, so far the US president has only received negative responses or silence. Starting with the Alliance countries, who have clearly stated that there will be no Alliance military operation. And the EU confirmed this, refusing even to expand Operation Aspides to include the war in Iran.
Strait of Hormuz, NATO and EU vs Trump
NATO will not intervene, as confirmed by EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas: “This is truly outside the area of NATO’s action.” And because the EU has other tools in place, such as Operation Aspides, which however “is outside NATO territories, there are no NATO countries in the Strait of Hormuz.”
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also makes this clear: the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz cannot be entrusted “to a NATO mission.” But skepticism about Trump’s proposal is also evident in Berlin: “It doesn’t seem like NATO has made a decision or can take responsibility for the Strait of Hormuz,” as explained by German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul. And Spain is also opposed to a military mission.
Greece has also confirmed that it will not participate in military actions at Hormuz. There is no change to the mandate of Aspides either, according to Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares. After all, for Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, it is “complex” to think of changing the mandate of Aspides to include intervention in the Strait of Hormuz.
