Il Tempo: Meloni e Mattarella accolgono Zelensky: "Sostegno a Kyev. E sui droni..."
La presidente del Consiglio, Giorgia Meloni, ha incontrato oggi il suo omologo ucraino Volodymyr Zelensky a Palazzo Chigi. Il bilaterale è stato l'occasione per ribadire la vicinanza del governo di Roma a Kyev nella sua guerra contro la Russia. Verso Mosca, che continua "a non mostrare segnali concreti" nel processo negoziale, l'Italia continuerà "a promuovere, in sede G7 e in sede di Unione Europea, la pressione economica". Putin "insiste negli attacchi contro i civili e persevera nel colpire le infrastrutture indispensabili per la popolazione" e quindi in Europa "si appresta ad arrivare il ventesimo pacchetto di sanzioni per ridurre ulteriormente le entrate che alimentano la macchina bellica".
Per Palazzo Chigi, dunque, massimo sostegno finanziario e politico per garantire la sopravvivenza dell'Ucraina. La premier è poi tornata a parlare dei macro-sistemi, ribadendo l'importanza dell'alleanza euro-atlantica e sottolineando che "un Occidente diviso, un'Europa spaccata, sarebbero l'unico vero regalo che potremmo fare a Mosca". E proprio sul fronte della cooperazione, Meloni ha rivelato di aver approfondito con Zelensky il dossier sulla difesa perché l'Italia "è molto interessata a sviluppare una produzione congiunta sulla materia dei droni, settore nel quale sappiamo bene che l'Ucraina in questi anni è diventata una nazione guida". Non è solamente un dovere morale, spiega il capo del Governo, ma "una necessità strategica perché in gioco non ci sono solamente la dignità, la libertà e l'indipendenza di Kiev, ma anche la sicurezza dell'Europa, nel senso più ampio del termine".
Dopo l'incontro a Palazzo Chigi, Zelensky è stato poi ricevuto al Quirinale dal presidente della Repubblica Sergio Mattarella. "Le ribadisco che l'Italia sarà sempre a fianco dell'Ucraina", ha detto il capo dello Stato che ha rinnovato anche "il sentimento di amicizia profonda che lega Ucraina a Italia"

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni met today with her Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy at Palazzo Chigi. The bilateral meeting was an opportunity to reiterate the government of Rome’s closeness to Kyiv in its war against Russia. Towards Moscow, which continues “to show no concrete signals” in the negotiation process, Italy “will continue to promote, at the G7 and at the European Union level, economic pressure.” Putin “continues to insist on attacks against civilians and perseveres in striking essential infrastructure for the population” and therefore in Europe “is preparing for the twentieth package of sanctions to further reduce the revenues that fuel the war machine.”
For Palazzo Chigi, therefore, maximum financial and political support to ensure Ukraine’s survival. The Prime Minister then returned to discussing macroeconomic systems, reiterating the importance of the Euro-Atlantic alliance and emphasizing that “a divided West, a split Europe, would be the only true gift we could give to Moscow.” And specifically on the issue of cooperation, Meloni revealed she had deepened discussions with Zelenskyy on the defense dossier because Italy “is very interested in developing a joint production on the matter of drones, a sector in which we know well that Ukraine has become a leading nation in recent years.” It’s not just a moral duty, explains the head of government, but “a strategic necessity because what’s at stake is not just the dignity, freedom and independence of Kyiv, but also the security of Europe, in the broadest sense of the term.”
After the meeting at Palazzo Chigi, Zelenskyy was then received by President Sergio Mattarella at the Quirinal. “I reiterate that Italy will always be at the side of Ukraine,” said the head of state who also renewed “the deep friendship that links Ukraine to Italy.”
