I made another stew of my general pattern — beans, grain, greens, alliums, etc. — and this one tastes especially good — high in umami, for one thing. Also, I tried a commercial turmeric paste instead of using my own version and found it quite good.

If I wanted to make butternut squash soup myself, is it as simple as blending butternut squash? Or are there certain seasonings?

A soup recipe with perhaps TMI on the reasons for ingredient choices. Still, it's tasty. It's vegan, but offers salmon as an optional ingredient (which would, of course, make it not vegan). Soup includes beans and barley.
