It is very hopeful to hear of these Israeli troops who are deciding to follow their consciences and refuse to fight in Gaza, joining the broader movement of former #IDF troops who are refusing orders to support the ongoing occupations of the West Bank, Gaza and Golan Heights.

Some Israeli soldiers refuse to keep fighting in Israel-Hamas war, pushing for ceasefire

A growing number of Israeli soldiers are speaking out against the Israel-Hamas war. They say they did or saw things that crossed ethical lines. Some 200 soldiers have signed a letter saying they’ll stop fighting if the government doesn’t secure a ceasefire. Seven soldiers spoke to The Associated Press about their refusals, describing Palestinians indiscriminately killed and houses destroyed. These soldiers hope to encourage others to come forward. This comes amid mounting pressure on Israel and Hamas to wind down fighting before U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration. The army says it condemns the refusal to serve and takes calls for refusal seriously. Soldiers can be jailed for refusing to serve. But those who organized the letter say none who signed has been detained.
