Today In Labor History March 26, 1918: American anarchist Philip Grosser wrote about being tortured in the prison on Alcatraz Island, while serving time there for refusing to serve in World War I. By 1920, he was the only draft resistor still serving time at Alcatraz. Alexander Berkman referred to him as "one of [my] finest comrades."

I read a news article today about a coyote swimming 1.25 miles to Alcatraz Island earlier this month. After recovering from the swim and frigid water temperature it has gone on to gain weight. They weren't sure it would recover from the swim itself. Apparently they might cause an issue for nesting sea birds but for now they're letting it roam free.

I wanted to share it because it's something in the news that isn't "doom and gloom".
