PLANNING AN EPIC RAIL TRIP/SPEAKING TOUR

I was able to snag a half-price #Amtrak railpass on a special, so I'm planning some cross-country travel, but I also would love to take advantage of this opportunity to get to do some speaking in different communities while traveling.

The cities I'll be at (and would have time to speak in) are: Seattle, Portland, SF Bay area, and Denver.

The topics I can present on would include:

1. #DraftCounseling - Why local groups need to start getting ready to help people who may face military conscription under the Trump administration?

2. The issue of #IllegalOrders under US #MilitaryLaw as well as #InternationalLaw

3. #Indigenous Draft Resistance - stories and reflections from the history of resistance by Indigenous Americans to being drafted

4. The joys of engaging in MRP (multi-religious practice) --- I'm a Humanistic Jew who is also an active member of a progressive #Mennonite church.

5. Something else? - I'm open to other topics related to military law, #HumanisticJudaism, and the progressive Mennonite tradition.

As far as cost goes, I'm asking for local groups who can afford it to either: (1) find me a place to a stay, ideally a private bedroom that I can get to by mass transit from the Amtrak station, or (2) pay me an honorarium of at least $100.

There is no doubt where the administration stands when it is allowing so many military commanders to say such vile things, in violation of military regulations, federal statutes, and the First Amendment of the US Constitution.

This is why I've been speaking so much about the dangers of Christian Nationalism, because it is quickly becoming the new norm in the US military. It is, of course, illegal, but it is also offensive to the many troops who might have different religious beliefs (including many Christians). No one should be forced to listen to hateful remarks like what these troops had to hear.

Excerpt: "This morning our commander opened up the combat readiness status briefing by urging us to not be “afraid” as to what is happening with our combat operations in Iran right now. He urged us to tell our troops that this was “all part of God’s divine plan” and he specifically referenced numerous citations out of the Book of Revelation referring to Armageddon and the imminent return of Jesus Christ. He said that “President Trump has been anointed by Jesus to light the signal fire in Iran to cause Armageddon and mark his return to Earth”. He had a big grin on his face when he said all of this which made his message seem even more crazy."

MLTF Condemns Unprovoked US/Israeli Attack On Iran

The MILITARY LAW TASK FORCE of the NATIONAL LAWYERS GUILD categorically condemns the unprovoked US/Israeli attack on Iran. This is a grotesque violation of international law and the U.S. Constitution.

Iran is a sovereign nation and a member of the United Nations as is the United States. The UN Charter is a treaty which is the “supreme law of the land” under Article VI of the US Constitution. Article 2(4) of the UN Charter states, “All Members shall refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state, or in any other manner inconsistent with the Purposes of the United Nations.”

The aggression here is a crime under international law and is committed when, as here, a country attacks another that is not threatening it and is not carried out in self-defense against an attack.

There can be no justification for the attack if, as President Trump proclaimed, Iran’s nuclear weapons program was “obliterated” in another illegal act just over six months ago.

We recall that, for the past two decades or more, Netanyahu has claimed that Iran was within weeks of having a nuclear weapon. Those claims were false, however, even if true, a resolution was being negotiated when the current assault occurred.

We remind U.S. armed service members that they have the right and the duty to resist and refuse illegal orders. We pledge our full support to those who do so, and to service members who protest or stand against this disastrous war.
