Thomas Levin has amassed a large collection of "voice letters" from the 1930s through to the 1960s. Using public booths, people could record messages on to a vinyl record, and dispatch them in the mail.

FlowFlow, voice notes with on-device RAG in Rust for iOS

FlowFlow는 iOS용 100% Rust 기반 음성 메모 앱으로, 사용자의 음성을 녹음하고 Soniox API를 통해 실시간 자동 전사하며, RAG(검색-생성) 기능으로 메모 내용을 질의할 수 있다. 로컬 우선 아키텍처를 채택해 SQLite와 LanceDB 벡터 DB를 사용하며, Dioxus 프레임워크와 Tailwind CSS로 UI를 구현했다. LLM 백엔드는 OpenAI와 Anthropic을 지원하며, 음성 전사에서 망설임 단어를 자동 제거하고, 메모에 자동 태깅과 문서 임포트 기능도 제공한다. Rust 생태계 기반으로 비동기 처리(tokio)와 오디오 캡처(cpal, hound)를 활용해 iOS에서 네이티브 성능을 낸다.
