Glad påsk, A long weekend it is.
As the weather sucks (my my, it actually snows a little now) and I don't really want to step outside, I will spend free time migrating my personal research library to #Zotero. Actually, I will pay for some storage/syncing tier too - the project deserves support.
A brief personal history of bibliographic managers, nevertheless:
1. 2011-2014 - Mendeley
2. 2014-2021 - JabRef
3. 2021-2025 - Paperpile
Old habits die hard though, I still tend to do .bibs manually.

Have you looked into Zotero? It's designed for academic use (my friend used it while writing their PhD thesis) and may be over-engineered for your needs. But it's Free Code (AGPL), both client and server AFAIK, and development is supported by charging a subscription for an (optional) online backup for your local-first Zotero database a commercial service.
