I've gotten really #hyperfocus obviously
This time, I got sniped by this video about #Illustrator and #Photoshop and wanted to recreate it in #Inkscape and #GIMP
He uses PS "smart objects" to add the glow which GIMP doesn't appear to have. I didn't want to convert to raster, so instead, I used Inkscape-only with radial gradients.
Unexpectedly, the tricky part was getting a full outline of the drawing.
Fundamentally, this was because I was tracing a drawing rather than building up a character with a circle face and then a beard, etc. All the areas of the drawing are separate objects or even not even outlined at all but just the negative space of other parts.
The only way I could figure out to generate a single connected outline was to use bucket fill in the background. (other than just tracing the outline one more time...)
The only other non-straightforward thing was using a different blend mode and building up multiple gradients
