I was late bringing his dinner and he was actually out of his hide. That never happens. Poor opossum would really like to go free but needs to finish healing and regrow his hair to have a chance out in the cold. You can see the bare strip behind his shoulder where he was stitched up. There was a degloving on his rear thigh not visible in the picture that is still healing. Sorry, bud, it's a few more weeks of easy meals for you.

Two weeks ago I took in a young #VirginiaOpossum found playing dead and actually bleeding in the finder's yard. The vet stitched up two large wounds on his body that looked like he had narrowly escaped a predator like a fox or coyote. So far this is the best picture I've gotten because, unless I pull him out for meds and crate cleaning thus occupying my hands, he hides, as he should. Anyway, please look at this opossum. 🙂

I'm having a species crush on the Virginia Opossum.

They're cute, cranky, ugly, sweet and bizarre all at once. They hang from their tails, pretend to be dead (complete with foul odor), cuddle in families and hiss like a cat.

I love them so very much!

Possum Every Hour ( @possumeveryhour ) is my crack of choice. Srsly, check them out & tell me you didn't fall in love!

Mark my words... opossums are the new capybara!

There’s a tradition in my family that your grandmother makes you a quilt when you turn 13; my great aunt stepped in and made me one after my grandmother died. I was always touched by that and feel strongly that “make a quilt for his 13th birthday” is one of my duties as “honorary auntie” for my late friend’s son.

A late-afternoon opossum wandered through the yard the other day. #Opossum #VirginiaOpossum #CameraTrap #WildlifeCamera #BackyardWildlife #WesternMassachusetts

When I wrote that people mustn’t like opossums cause there’s no emoji I heard from their fans! So, #tinyPrintTuesday is another unexpected backyard visitor, the Virginia opossum.

When I was a kid, we never saw them… but we see and hear them in Toronto today. I think there’re extraordinary. An actual marsupial in NA who carries her babies on her back, can swing from her tail and best of all, eat lots of ticks.

Epic battle between fox and opossum in my parents’ yard.
(I’m not including a CW for violence because there isn’t any, but if you don’t like seeing foxes brutally humiliated, you have been warned.)
Taken with a Reolink Argus PT camera in Western Massachusetts.
