Next was an incredible talk by Ana Iltis on ethical issues in race-targeted genetic testing at #UNCC. #Race is often used to generate testing requirements for people to receive or donate kidneys, despite it being largely disconnected from genetics, & this important talk gets at the many ways that's problematic. Next was a fantastic talk by Karen Levy on the effect of #AI on #truckers at #UNCC. Truckers are the canary in the coal mine for workers, and Levy's amazingly detailed work shows how the introduction of new technology and approaches can have profoundly negative effects, even if the intentions of regulators are good. Next was a fantastic talk by Ngozi Okidegbe on discredited #data at #UNCC. This is a phenomenal takedown not just of #algorithms in the criminal justice system, but algorithms in problematic systems in general, meticulously picking apart the plethora of issues that plague #AI applications in these spaces.
