#Julialang #Pluto

Curious what Julia coders think of the 1.0 Pluto release. I've tried it in the past and compared it against vscode and #Positron. The long and short of it was that each felt incomplete in one way or another. Hoping to see Positron and Pluto keep maturing for Julia, though it seems that path is on hold for Positron at the moment.

Pluto 1.0 release!

After six years, it’s time to release Pluto version 1.0! With this release, I want to celebrate all the progress over the past years, and to symbolise that Pluto is ready. I am proud of what we have achieved, and I hope you enjoy it! This is a long post, so I will give a table of contents. This post will take 10 minutes to read. It will take longer if you click on links with additional information. Wait… what is Pluto? Okay! And what’s new in Pluto? (1/10) Reproducibility & reliability (2/10...

Holy cow, using mmap batching to stream chunks.npy input in #Julialang is a difference between 70gb of ram over 7 minutes and essentially nothing over 3 seconds. This really opens doors for different analysis on my machine!

DuckDB is an excellent alternative to SQLite. It compressed my 114 MB historical price database down to just 8 MB while significantly speeding up query performance. Furthermore, it offers seamless integration with Julia via the DuckDB.jl package.

#JuliaLang :julia

Almost done rewriting BAM score to length plotting script by @jpelbers.bsky.social (don't think he's on mastodon)! Can't believe this was a month's worth of digging :P New version is based off CairoMakie, thinking about playing with 3D WGL output using topographic map.

Also, this was a half decent sequencing run!

- statistical distributions in #scipy are great too. I even used a scaled-shifted beta-prime distribution a few weeks ago! (???) (Still #julialang  Distributions.jl is my fave)
- #cmdstanpy works exactly as expected (which is great) but the post-processing of mcmc draws is a bit more cumbersome in Python than in R in my opinion (arviz in Python vs posterior in R) although this might again be matplotlib vs ggplot (did I mention I am not a matplotlib fan?)

4/n

I needed to do some circuit analysis and verify that analysis under different assumptions. I really like what #Lcapy can do for linear circuit analysis, like automatic transfer function extraction. I do, however, still loathe #python. #julialang FTW.
