Undergraduate and high-school students showed off their Summer 2025 projects at last Friday's poster sessions. Research included a test of chatbot styles for countering SMS phishing, and an analysis of survey data about AI perceptions. https://www.facebook.com/share/1BRfXL9ZDV/?mibextid=wwXIfr

These students were sponsored by UNC Charlotte's Office of Undergraduate Research and Center for STEM Education, the NSF Research Experiences for Undergraduates program, and the Army Educational Opportunities Program.

Whew! Students made FOUR paper submissions this week to the Symposium on Usable Privacy and Security. Best of luck! #soups2025 #fingerscrossed
Our lab had two posters at this year’s Summer Research Symposium for undergraduates! Jabou Jallow and Nishka Mathew helped us better understand security and privacy concerns for educational migrants, and Toya Okey-Nwamara, how to improve usability of digital forensics tools.
This is my first summer with a full research lab, and I have to say, I am SO amazed at how much my students are getting done! @SPEX_lab #academia #research

Very pleased to be presenting a poster and short paper at #CHI2024. This framework adds structure to the literature on social cybersecurity and summarizes findings from an interview study. I'll be there all week if you want to chat! https://blog.corifaklaris.com/2024/05/06/a-framework-for-reasoning-about-social-influences-on-security-and-privacy-adoption-new-for-chi-2024/

"A Framework for Reasoning about Social Influences on Security and Privacy Adoption" - new for CHI 2024 - Cori Faklaris' blog - HeyCori

This framework gives structure to what is known in the literature and the SIGCHI community about the social-psychological drivers of security and privacy adoption.

THREE papers from @SPEX_lab “in submission” for #chi2024. And submitted! Time for a margarita. 🍹

Best of luck to those on deadline!

This part of @ethanz’s brilliant review of #Threads is an excellent articulation of my views about Meta-Fediverse as well! https://ethanzuckerman.com/2023/07/07/competition-for-twitter-is-good-threads-thus-far-is-not/
Competition for Twitter is good. Threads, thus far, is not. - Ethan Zuckerman

On July 6th, Facebook (note 1) launched Threads, their new messaging microblogging system built on top of Instagram… in other words, their Twitter killer. Within 24 hours, more than 70 million people – myself included – had signed up for the service, making it the fastest growing social network in history. But let’s be clear:… Read More »Competition for Twitter is good. Threads, thus far, is not.

SPEX research group outing to end the semester! Thankful to work with such great students. @SPEX_lab
Congrats to Akash Bhatia for a 2nd place in computing and informatics posters at the 2023 UNC Charlotte Graduate Research Symposium. He presented results from a campus wide survey of cyber-awareness. 🎉✨🏅
