Changing email service providers ( #tuta is on sale), and in doing so taking the opportunity to go back through all of my old accounts to delete as many as I can that I no longer use.

The amount of companies which automatically delete data after 5 years of inactivity is a hell of a lot more than I would have reckoned, and it is quite reassuring.

Even Strava I had accidentally made a new account, and was able to delete it immediately afterwards.

Mijn streven is om voor thuiscomputergebruik los te komen van Amerikaanse #bigtech . Dat vind ik makkelijker gezegd dan gedaan.
Voor mijzelf lukt dat wel, beetje bij beetje: op mijn laptops met #Debian, #Vivaldi, #tuta #LibreOffice, #Signal, #Mastodon, #PixelFed, #Mistral en #nextcloud op een Nederlandse server (al is de opslagruimte beperkt). (En met Anaconda kan ik van alles uitproberen.)
Maar om deze ‘#Eurostack uit te dragen naar gezinsleden en bekenden, blijkt lastig. Een obstakel is Adobe Lightroom Classic, dat ik voor fotobewerking gebruik (het draait niet op Linux), waardoor er een Windows 11-pc aanwezig is.
Ook zien ze op tegen ‘het gedoe’ om over te stappen naar Linux en afscheid te nemen van Google, Microsoft en Meta. #Proton wordt op de een of andere manier met argwaan bekeken.

Er is wel weerzin tegen hoe deze Amerikaanse bedrijven omgaan met hun data, maar ze voelen geen urgentie. Wat wel lukt om te overtuigen: Signal in plaats van WhatsApp en Vivaldi in plaats van Google. Wat niet lukt: Linux in plaats van Windows, Tuta in plaats van Gmail, Mastodon of PixelFed in plaats van Instagram, PeerTube in plaats van YouTube.

Ik merk dat mijn aanpassingen een plateau hebben bereikt, al is er vast nog veel meer te doen: zie #european-alternatives.eu.

What is the best way to migrate away from google?
I've had my gmail aacount for almost 20 years, but now google have decided that I have to pay. The "storeage" is "full" even after I deleted a bunch of stuff. It's clear the they won't get a cent from me but I would apprecieate any advice how to move away with the least amount of trouble. I'm paying for a tuta account for a year and have redirected some stuff already but it has been slow progress.
