What is the best way to migrate away from google?
I've had my gmail aacount for almost 20 years, but now google have decided that I have to pay. The "storeage" is "full" even after I deleted a bunch of stuff. It's clear the they won't get a cent from me but I would apprecieate any advice how to move away with the least amount of trouble. I'm paying for a tuta account for a year and have redirected some stuff already but it has been slow progress.

@useravoiding i am also in the same boat. have not bought tuta yet, but thinking about it.

things that trip me up - family stuff, kike sharing photos, shaeed calendar, family link.

@useravoiding Maybe you can do a https://takeout.google.com/

As an aside, now proton supports connecting gmail with a proton account

In the past, I have used a tool to migrate email from one provider to another, using IMAP: imapsync

Hope this helps: https://dan.langille.org/2019/04/15/moving-your-imap-server-to-a-third-party-fastmail/

@useravoiding I moved away from google about 20 years ago. Tuta for a long time but have settled on Proton. [proton.me] I pay for a VPN through them but otherwise nothing. Their storage is good, collaboration is very easy and fast. Calendars and several other options. Reminds me of Thunderbird. very happy and it's very secure with fast encryption. Also use Fdroid or direct apk dwnlds for 90% of android. Have never had a play store account.
