Una scelta ovviamente dettata dalla prudenza, sottolineano funzionari iraniani citati dal New York Times: qualunque contatto o comunicazione in entrata o uscita potrebbe metterlo a rischio rivelando il suo nascondiglio.
A spiegare però la sua totale assenza dalla scena pubblica è anche il fatto che il 56enne figlio di Ali Khamenei è rimasto ferito nel primo giorno di attacchi americano e israeliano su Teheran. Nello stesso raid sono rimasti uccisi il padre, la madre, la moglie e un figlio oltre a tanti esponenti della Difesa iraniani. Le fonti citate dal giornale riferiscono di essere state informate del fatto che Khamenei ha riportato ferite, anche alle gambe, ma è vigile e resta sotto sorveglianza in un rifugio di massima sicurezza.
A conferma delle notizie sul ferimento ci sono anche i riferimenti fatti dalla televisione di stato e dall'agenzia di stampa statale IRNA, che lo hanno definito il leader supremo "veterano di guerra ferito". Inoltre, con una dichiarazione Komiteh Emdad, un'organizzazione religiosa governativa, si è congratulata con Khamenei definendolo un veterano ferito in guerra. Anche l'intelligence israeliana ha raccolto - già prima della sua nomina - notizie che vanno nella stessa direzione, e confermano il ferimento alle gambe del nuovo leader iraniano nell'attacco il 28 febbraio.
Non si conoscono le condizioni esatte di Khamenei né la gravità delle sue ferite. Oggi sull'argomento è intervenuto il figlio del presidente iraniano: il nuovo leader supremo dell'Iran Mojtaba Khamenei è ''sano e salvo'' nonostante le notizie del suo ferimento, ha dichiarato Yousef Pezeshkian, che è anche consigliere del governo, in un post su Telegram. "Ho sentito la notizia che Mojtaba Khamenei era rimasto ferito. Ho chiesto ad alcuni amici che avevano contatti con lui. Mi hanno detto che, grazie a Dio, sta bene", ha scritto.
