Agi: Nuova richiesta di rinvio a giudizio per la moglie di Sanchez
AGI - Il giudice che indaga da due anni sulla moglie del premier spagnolo Pedro Sánchez insiste e torna a chiedere il rinvio a giudizio davanti a una giuria popolare per Begoña Gómez, accusata di malversazione di fondi pubblici, traffico d'influenza e corruzione. Una precedente richiesta era stata annullata in appello, ma il magistrato Juan Carlos Peinado ha riformulato l'istanza, notificandola ufficialmente alle parti.
Gómez non si è presentata all'udienza, ma è stata rappresentata dai suoi legali, come previsto dalla legge. Secondo fonti giudiziarie, il giudice ritiene sussistenti gli elementi per un processo e accusa la moglie del capo del governo socialista di aver utilizzato la posizione del marito per ottenere finanziamenti, in particolare dall'imprenditore Juan Carlos Barrabes. La difesa continua a chiedere l'archiviazione del procedimento.

Il caso ha alimentato da mesi uno scontro tra procura e giudice istruttore e un forte confronto politico. Il governo e la sinistra denunciano una campagna di diffamazione orchestrata dall'opposizione di destra e dall'estrema destra. L'inchiesta si inserisce in un contesto più ampio che coinvolge altri esponenti vicini al premier: il fratello di Sánchez sarà processato a maggio per traffico d'influenza, mentre il procuratore generale spagnolo è stato condannato a novembre per violazione del segreto istruttorio.
L'ex ministro dei Trasporti José Luis Ábalos, già stretto collaboratore del premier e attualmente in detenzione preventiva, sarà processato a partire da martedì in un ampio caso di presunte tangenti legate ad appalti pubblici.
New request to indict Sanchez’s wife.
AGI - The judge investigating the wife of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has insisted and returned to request a trial by a popular jury for Begoña Gómez, accused of embezzlement of public funds, trafficking of influence and corruption. Over time, the judge has expanded the scope of the investigation, suspecting the involvement of Gómez’s assistant, formally employed by the Prime Minister’s services, who would however have collaborated with his external professional activities.
Political context and other investigations
The case has fueled a confrontation between the prosecutor and the investigating magistrate and a strong political comparison for months. The government and the left denounce a smear campaign orchestrated by the right-wing and far-right opposition. The investigation is part of a broader context involving other prominent figures close to the Prime Minister: Sánchez’s brother will be tried in May for trafficking of influence, while the Attorney General of Spain was convicted in November for violation of investigative secrecy.
Former Minister of Transport José Luis Ábalos, formerly a close collaborator of the Prime Minister and currently under pre-trial detention, will be tried starting Tuesday in a large case of alleged bribes related to public contracts.
