Nel video diffuso dal Ministero della Difesa italiano il comandante della base italiana di Erbil colpita da due droni ha rassicurato in prima persona sullo stato di salute dei soldati Italiani: "Il drone ha impattato all'interno della base provocando danni ad infrastrutture e materiali al momento non quantificabili, mentre non ci sono stati danni alle persone. Dal momento dell'incidente il ministro della Difesa, Guido Crosetto, e il capo di stato maggiore, Luciano Portolano, sono stati in costante contatto e manifestano vicinanza a tutti gli uomini e donne del contingente", così il comandante del contingente italiano Stefano Pizzotti, comandante dell'Italian National Contingent Command Lande nell'ambito dell'operazione 'Prima Parthica'. "Siamo stanchi ma il morale resto alto. Il personale è addestrato per affrontare anche queste situazioni, tenendo in considerazione che la sicurezza del personale rimane la massima priorità", ha aggiunto Pizzotti. Al video messaggio del comandante il Ministero ha aggiunto immagini sull'attività di addestramento delle forze locali svolto dal contingente.

La base militare italiana a Erbil, nel nord dell'Iraq, è stata attaccata stanotte da un drone iraniano. Il ministro della Difesa, Guido Crosetto, ha confermato l'accaduto specificando che non ci siano state vittime né feriti fra il personale: "Stato tutti bene". Si è trattato di un "attacco deliberato" ma il contingente "era già stato avvisato della possibilità" e quindi "dalle 8:30 avevano attuato tutte le condizioni di sicurezza". Condanna anche da parte dalla Farnesina, che ha poi espresso "solidarietà e gratitudine per il quotidiano servizio alla Patria".
A commentare l'accaduto è intervenuto anche Stefano Pizzotti, comandante dell'Italian National Contingent Command Lande: "Il morale nonostante la stanchezza rimane alto, il personale è addestrato per affrontare anche queste situazioni tenendo in considerazione che la sicurezza del personale rimane sempre la massima priorità". La presenza italiana in loco rientra nell'ambito Coalizione multinazionale "Prima Parhica / Inherent Resolve", a cui governo ha preso arte nel 2014. Composta da 84 nazioni e 5 organizzazioni internazionali, per un totale circa di 400 militari, la missione mira al contrasto della "minaccia terroristica del Dàesh" operante in Iraq e Siria.
Non solo. L'obiettivo è anche quello di sostenere la capacità addestrativa delle forze irachene: bonifica e sminamento, pianificazione civile e militare, medicia. Nello specifico, la sezione italiana "contribuisce agli staff dei comandi", contribuisce "all'elitrasporto a favore della Coalizione", fornisce "supporto logistico di teatro" e attraverso l'Arma dei Carabinieri assiste le Iraqi Police Forces.

Le forze dei vari Paesi che hanno espresso l'intendimento di aderire alla Coalizione ai sensi dell'Art. 51 della Carta dell'ONU, nonché delle Risoluzioni n. 2170 del 15 agosto 2014 e n. 2178 del 27 settembre 2014, sulla base della richiesta ​di soccorso presentata il 20 settembre 2014 dal rappresentante permanente dell'Iraq presso l'ONU al Presidente del Consiglio di Sicurezza.​

Seguendo le procedure ci siamo recati in sicurezza nei bunker e poco prima dell'una, sempre ora locale, c'è stata una minaccia aerea che ha colpito la base italiana. Sono state colpite le infrastrutture ed è ancora in corso l'accertamento dei danni. Gli artificieri sono al lavoro, ma quello che mi preme sottolineare è che tutto il personale sta bene. I nostri uomini sono in sicurezza, erano protetti nel bunker e stanno tutti bene. Il morale è alto, rassicuriamo le famiglie. Siamo preparati e addestrati per affrontare queste situazioni. L'allarme adesso è cessato”, le parole del comandante Stefano Pizzotti, intervenuto a Sky Tg24 per raccontare quanto accaduto alla base militare italiana nel Kurdistan iracheno.
