Serene

This morning started wonderfully serene. The sunrise was beautiful and there was only the sound of waves and birds around me. Yesterday evening I had decided to go to this iconic white lighthouse on the peninsula Marken, seeing how the chances were good that there was going to be colour in the sky this morning. It was a long time ago that I had last been here, and it felt good to be back here once more. Especially with conditions like these.

Noctilucent Windmill

A midsummer shot from a night when there was a beautiful display of noctilucent clouds. I love it when these fleeting shapes of ice crystals, high up in the atmosphere, suddenly appear some time after sunset.

Sunset Poles

My favourite stretch of beach here in the Netherlands is between Bergen and Hargen. You can find multiple lines of these poles, running into the sea, and wave breakers in the form of stone dams, with loose rocks beside them, offering good foregrounds for seascapes. The best quality of this beach, though, is that there's usually nobody there in the evening. You can be here all by yourself, which is something I very much enjoy.

Chiesetta di San Giovanni

This small church in Val di Funes, in the central Dolomites, is iconic for a reason. Just look at this view and you know you have to see this in person. After coming down from the beautiful view over Santa Maddalena from higher up the other way, I stood here well after sunset. The evening sky still subtly cast a warm glow on the mightily impressive Puez-Odle mountain group in the background. Hints of snow could even be seen. While I had hoped for more autumn colours, this view never disappoints.
