Drawn

When I recently cycled through my hometown, I came across this spot. I knew the spot, as I did the view from the bridge on the left. But standing on the quay, looking back towards the bridge and the houses behind it, I was immediately drawn by this composition. That the sky had just started to colour gently was a nice bonus.

Serene

This morning started wonderfully serene. The sunrise was beautiful and there was only the sound of waves and birds around me. Yesterday evening I had decided to go to this iconic white lighthouse on the peninsula Marken, seeing how the chances were good that there was going to be colour in the sky this morning. It was a long time ago that I had last been here, and it felt good to be back here once more. Especially with conditions like these.

City of Light

From the observation deck on top of the immensely ugly Tour Montparnasse in Paris, you have two major advantages: firstly, from the tower you don't actually see the skyscraper itself, and secondly, the top floor offers an amazing view over the city.

This was on July 14, or Bastille Day. My next upload will be a shot from the firework and drone show from and around the Tour Eiffel.

Falling Water

This large waterfall in the French Vosges was getting plenty supply of water, as it was a very wet week when we were there, last year's summer. All that humidity made these rocks extremely slippery. And so I rather stayed on the path.

Moss

On a wet and foggy early afternoon, I came across this lush green and mossy forest scene in the Vosges. The crooked birch tree stood out to me. This was on the first full day of what would be a very wet week in this French range of medium mountains.

Noctilucent Windmill

A midsummer shot from a night when there was a beautiful display of noctilucent clouds. I love it when these fleeting shapes of ice crystals, high up in the atmosphere, suddenly appear some time after sunset.

Disappearing City

A foggy morning in my hometown. The Adriaan windmill and the main church were completely shrouded in mist before, but had slowly started to appear again. This shot basically asked for a black and white treatment.

Misty Chocolate

This is the former chocolate factory or Droste. It is known around the world for its packaging design or yore, with a woman holding a box of cocoa, boasting the exact same scene, which is then repeated into infinity, smaller and smaller. You might have seen it somewhere.

Amsterdam Light Festival

One of the more interesting light art installations at this year's ALF. It's called Metamorfaunes and depicts several Dutch icons, including a mermaid version of Vermeer's girl with the pearl earring.

Receding Autumn

The penultimate week of November, autumn was clearly on its way out, although there were still some trees and branches that showed some beautiful fall colours. This spot stood out to me, when I visited the always beautiful Speulderbos in the Veluwe National Park. The reddish carpet of fallen leaves on the forest floor, the different shades of orange, yellow and green leaves in the background, plus the bright green moss on the trees in the foreground, made that I really wanted to photograph this scene. Even though I had really hoped there would have been some fog that morning, it was beautiful either way.
