#Environmental rant:

I live in a #floodplain, where a river exits a glacially-carved valley into the sea. And, with #climatechange induced #searise and increased #ExtremeWeather events, gov't is planning #flood mitigation infrastructure.

Dredging, dyking, and flood walls do not work; they make flooding events worse by constraining the water, making it deeper, faster, and more dangerous.

What works is slowing down the water, giving wide places to overrun - becoming shallow and slow.
