A year after federal employees were hit by the Trump administration’s cost-cutting efforts through the Department of Government Efficiency, it remains unclear what the agency saved. Three hundred workers at the U.S. Institute of Peace were among tens of thousands of federal employees affected. The 300 workers were fired by the Republican administration, rehired and fired again, a reflection of the chaos wrought by DOGE. Some federal workers are still wondering if their pain was worth the effort. The DOGE website says it has saved about $215 billion through various actions. But the Government Accountability Office and think tanks haven’t determined how much was saved.

A new study has suggested that the transformation of Twitter into X under Elon Musk marks the rise of a new, illiberal regime of governing social media platforms, which can be controlled by one person and used to push their own political agenda. Alongside researchers from the WZB Berlin Social Science Center and the Weizenbaum Institute, Dr. João C. Magalhães of The University of Manchester studied more than 1,500 events to track how the platform has changed since Musk acquired it.

150 people protested on the sidewalk in front of the courthouse, in the small South Jersey town of Cape May Courthouse. Of the cars passing by, 28% were beeping and giving thumbs ups, 4% gave the middle finger. I think small local demonstrations like this might possibly influence more people than big ones, especially since news coverage is not great.
