#RockportME #BookSale - #RockportPublicLibrary

March 28 @ 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

"Like the daffodils and tulips, the first Friends of the Rockport Public Library Book Sale of the year is a beloved harbinger of spring. This year’s event will be held in the Rockport Library’s lower level on Friday and Saturday, Mar. 27 and 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

"As always, tables will be filled with extraordinary deals on thousands of books, #CDs, #DVDs, #puzzles, and #audiobooks. Planning to buy a lot? Join the Friends of the Rockport Public Library for $20 and receive a purple tote to fill up with books at no additional charge. Refill the tote at book sales in June and September for only $10. If you already bought your tote in December, don’t forget to bring it back for your $10 refill.

"The Friends will have an especially large selection of puzzles, DVDs, and audiobooks at this sale, thanks to generous donations. Spring is also a great time to stock up on #GardeningBooks and #Crafting books (graduation and wedding season is just around the corner — time to make something special).

"All proceeds from the sale will benefit the Rockport Public Library. Only cash and checks are able to be accepted."

#RockportME - 2nd Annual SEED FEST

April 11 @ 9:30 AM – 1:30 PM

"The #RockportPublicLibrary will host its second annual SEED FEST on Saturday, April 11. This free, family-friendly event will take place on the upper and lower levels of the library. From 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., visitors can browse educational exhibits and activities covering #SeedStarting, #pollinators, #SoilHealth, #Composting, #NativePlants, #HeirloomVegetables, growing #rice and #grains in #Maine, #Wabanaki #FoodSovereignty, and much more!

"At 12:30 p.m., Petra Page-Mann of #FruitionSeeds will deliver an interactive keynote presentation. Page-Mann and her nonprofit seed company are strong advocates of 'gift culture,' which involves giving away seeds to promote food cultivation and community building. This ethos aligns perfectly with the theme of SEED FEST.

"The event is generously sponsored by the Rockport Library Foundation and is organized in partnership with several organizations, listed alphabetically: Herbal Hummingbird Hub, Knox Lincoln County Beekeepers, Knox-Lincoln Soil and Water Conservation District, Maine Grains and Maine Grain Alliance, Maine Heirloom Seed Network, Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association [#MOFGA], #MaineRiceProject at Ararat Farms, #MerryspringNatureCenter, #Niweskok: From the Stars to Seeds, Roots n Shoots, #UMaineCooperativeExtension, and #WildSeedProject.

"The exhibiting partners will provide valuable information, hands-on activities, items for sale, and an abundance of free seeds and seedlings. Additionally, #midcoast artist Katharine Cartwright’s beautiful #BotanicalPaintings will be showcased in the library’s lower level for a month-long exhibition titled 'In My Garden.' "

#RockportME - #PollinatorFriendly Vs. #Ornamental Flowers

April 8 @ 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM
#RockportPublicLibrary

"#Birds, #bats, #bees, #butterflies, #beetles, and other small mammals are integral pollinators whose natural activities sustain our ecosystems. However, many people fill their gardens with over-hybridized plant varieties that have been bred for their ornamental value. #DoubleBlooms, exotic species, and other engineered qualities — while pretty — create plants that are difficult for all pollinators and can be detrimental to local habitats when cultivated in large numbers (like pollenless sunflowers).

"Maine Master Gardener Volunteer #JohnFromer will discuss varieties of flowering plants that are both beautiful and valuable to our local pollinators, give examples of non-pollinator friendly flowers, and provide tips for growing these in the #Midcoast region.

"This talk is part of the Rockport Library’s Spring Horticulture Series in partnership with Merryspring Nature Center."

#RockportME - Make Your Own #PersonalCareProducts Workshop

April 1 @ 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM

"Clinical #Herbalist #PatHarpell will lead a workshop at the #RockportPublicLibrary, teaching participants how to create their own personal care products. This free class, on Wednesday, April 1, at 1 p.m., is part of the Library’s 'Let’s Feel Better in 2026' series.

"Harpell emphasizes that personal care products are simple to make and free from the chemicals found in most store-bought products. During the workshop, participants will learn to make an all-natural lotion and facial cleanser using ingredients that are safe enough to consume. Attendees will take home their creations and receive instructions for making #LipBalm, #shampoo, hair rinse, and more.

"Harpell’s interest in skin care products originated from her research as a clinical herbalist. She encountered persistent, chronic conditions that resisted treatment from both modern and alternative medicine. This experience led her to advocate that the ingredients applied to the skin are just as important to consider as those put into the body. Harpell encourages participants to embrace this knowledge and host personal care product-making parties at home.

"The 90-min. program has a limited capacity of 16 participants. Interested individuals can register by calling the Rockport Library at 207-236-3642."
