Catch of the Day: Spies in the Frog Pond?! 🕵️♂️🇰🇵
Hey Retro Fans!
Today we need to briefly put on our virtual tin foil hats because a true spy thriller has popped up in our server logs! Someone visited the Frog pond using the Naenara (Red Star OS) browser!
For those scratching their heads right now: Naenara (Korean for "My Country") is the heavily modified, state-run web browser of North Korea! It is the default browser in their own operating system, Red Star OS (which is Linux-based but visually identical to Apple's Mac OS X). The browser itself is actually an ancient Mozilla Firefox (Version 3.5) that has been reprogrammed to send data directly to North Korean servers and is designed to only access their strictly censored, domestic intranet called "Kwangmyong."
The fact that we recorded a click from this browser running on Windows today shows that there are some true hardcore tinkerers in the retro community who extracted this heavily guarded piece of software from Red Star OS and compiled it for Windows just to explore the free (retro) web.
No matter what system you are dialing in from – you are all welcome in the Frog pond!
