TX deploys floating barrier to deter migrant crossings at US-MX border. "TX is installing a “floating wall” across the Rio Grande with netting intended to snag & drown border-crossers. River currents will trap debris in the nets & alter river flows. Ppl & wildlife will drown🚨. This is Gov Abbott’s deadly abomination… 4 ft high, equipped with weights & netting, designed to rotate to keep people from scaling them.”-Laiken Jordahl. #RepublicanRacism #GOPLies #ProImmigration https://www.cnn.com/2023/07/07/us/texas-marine-floating-barrier-migrants/index.html
More humanitarian assistance from the US is required to stop the migrant deaths: Along the SW border, >100 migrants have already died from heat this year amid the Biden admins continued crackdown on asylum seekers. "Migrant deaths will continue to happen until we have a policy [to receive] workers … [and] to deal with the lack of HRs in their home [countries]"-. #HumanRights #ProImmigration https://www.democracynow.org/2023/7/11/heat_dome_border
Human Rights Activists Warn Climate-Induced Heat Waves Are Killing Asylum Seekers at the Border

A massive heat dome is starting to engulf the southern United States this week. It could grow to be one of the worst in the region’s history, breaking records for intensity and longevity and impacting some 50 million people in Florida, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Southern California and Nevada. Heat domes are a key part of heat waves and have become hotter and longer due to climate change, making heat the leading cause of weather-related death in the United States. Along the Southwest border, more than 100 migrants have already died from heat this year amid the Biden administration’s continued crackdown on asylum seekers. We hear from Laurie Cantillo, a board member and volunteer with Humane Borders, which works to maintain water stations for migrants crossing the Sonoran Desert and Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument along the Arizona-Mexico border, as well as Eddie Canales, director of the South Texas Human Rights Center, who condemns the U.S.’s policy of migrant deterrence as inhumane and ineffective and says that “migrant deaths will continue to happen until we have a policy [to receive] workers … [and] to deal with the lack of human rights in their home [countries].”

U.S. opens new immigration path for Central Americans and Colombians to discourage border crossings

The Biden administration has made the expansion of legal migration a cornerstone of its revamped strategy to reduce unauthorized border crossings.

After spending a few weeks offline I started innocently occasionally clicking on one app or another for a brief scroll.

The reptilian part of my brain was drawn initially to twitter, after an ex president was due to hand himself.

A wedding I was unable to attend encouraged me to click on Facebook to see the pics.

A google search of one of my 3am pains lead me to Reddit.

Once I returned to an app it was like the habit of clicking and scrolling during dull moments of the day was immediately reinstated…I don’t know why I didn’t come here sooner

Last night I opened Facebook to see an ex councillor had posted an anti immigration meme in our community group, the admin usually discourages memes as not being about our community, (according to google the largest immigrant community in the town I live is Gurka and that’s because we are a military town where many of them were based) but was upset that the approved post (by him or his wife the only two admins) garnered more, albeit negative response than his own happy Easter message had…

This morning as I waited for the kettle to boil I sleepily/mindlessly clicked on twitter, the first post I saw was from a clout chaser who until recently was themselves transgender rehearing to a “man named Tara”.

Both occasions I baulked at in humanity of the messages, I delved into the comments loosing faith in humans having a higher nature…

Then I remembered this kind little place where admins didn’t support any kind of discrimination and I was more likely to read about sciences greatest achievements this week or a representative of a cause rallying troops that see hate spilling out of people who would rather receive bad attention than no attention.

A quick scroll and it feels like home again. I think I’m going to come back here more often. If you’ve read this far I’d love to know why you’re here?

P.S Reddit is just like a story time, I ain’t mad at that!

I don't forget ANYTHING.
I lived through it all intensely and I don't need anybody to rewrite history for me. Corbyn was a massive disaster at the worst possible time.

What I want of the current Labour Party is not to repeat the same mistakes.

I have no shared values with Red Wall voters: I'm #proImmigration, #proEU, and never switch to vote Tory as they did.

If Labour persists in prioritising their vote over mine, I still have the Greens. Simples.
