Martin Short Performs Raunchy Tune With Paul Shaffer During David Letterman’s Netflix Event

Letterman, Short and Shaffer recreated their ‘Late Show’ magic while discussing breakthroughs, failures, and family tragedy: “I'm very sorry for your loss, and I’m so happy you could be here with us tonight.”

Paul Shaffer Sings Frank Sinatra, Shares Stage with David Letterman and John Mulaney at Netflix Event

Mulaney made the most of his time on the Montalban stage by praising comedian Robby Hoffman, teasing a return to 'Everybody's in LA' and trashing the Michael Jackson biopic: "It looks like dog shit."

The Honeydrippers, Volume One, 1984 on Es Paranza

Robert Plant’s early 80s group dedicated to reproducing the sound of R&B, which had a big hit with a cover of “Sea of Love.”

The title, Volume One, turned out to be aspirational as it was their only LP.

The lineup, however, includes (in addition to Plant): Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Paul Shaffer, Nile Rodgers, Wayne Pedzwater, Dave Weckl, Brian Setzer, and Keith Smith.

My copy—via VInyl Destination in Lowell, MA—is a 1984 pressing from Speciality Record Pressing. Love this version of the labbel.

Blues Brothers, Made in America, 1980 on Atlantic

The Blues Brothers’ second album, released the same year the film came out (1980). Lots of folks are surprised (I was) that the Blues Brothers pre-existed the film – they performed on Saturday Night Live in April 1978 and put out Briefcase Full of Blues that same year.

The band on this release includes, in addition to Elwood Blues (Dan Akryod) and Jake Joliet Blues (John Belushi): Donald “Duck” Dunn (bass), Steve Jordan (drums), Paul Shaffer (organ), Murphy Dunne (Werlitzer), Matt “Guitar” Murphy & Steve Cropper (guitars), Lou Marini, Tom Scott, Tom Malone (saxes), and Alan Rubin (trumpet). The album was produced by Paul Shaffer and Bob Tischler, and recorded live at the Universal Ampitheatre.

My copy—via Vinyl Destination in Lowell MA—is an original 1980 Specialty Records pressing.
