My mother is beginning testing a #linuxmint laptop as her daily driver while taking notes about issues. It's been 4 days and I haven't received a call about any issues.

I finally killed the dragon and got windows off the new gaming lappy and got #pop_os installed successfully and relatively smoothly. HAving to access the bios form within Windows via recovery because the BIOS was locked out from boot (F12 failed to work) to turn off Secure UEFI was the biggest fight.

Getting the apps set up so far has been smooth. I need to do a little more with some technical side apps for video capture and editing on there.

I need to check in with my buddy rocking the #cachyOS box used for lighter gaming (stock business desktop graphics from 3 years ago) and internet browsing and see how that's going.

There is good forward progress.

Forget #bazzite
I can load up any other gaming Linux. This won’t run. I picked the appropriate hardware config. And it won’t run. Two different usb sticks, it won’t even be read. #ubuntu #linuxmint #pop_os #NobaraLinux just work. But not Bazzite. Not on a recycled computer. Not on a brand new gaming laptop.

Lesson learned. Which gaming Linux distro should I put on a warp drive gaming lappy?

I've hit a nasty little problem when updating PoP! _OS. The 6.17.9 kernel is having problems on two of my laptops. I lose access to the EFI partition. I working on the previous kernel for a while.

I was waiting patiently for the next #Pop_OS version, and this week the upgrade from 22.04 to 24.04 was finally offered to me by the system. I was psyched, so I upgraded!

Well, I am greatly disappointed by the state of the COSMIC desktop. Don't get me wrong, I love the desktop and UI itself. What I don't like is how everything seems to be broken: had to reinstall all 'core COSMIC' packages manually, audio does not work AT ALL, and the window manager randomly shits the bed and I need to reboot.

Nun auch schriftlich und mit weiteren Eindruecken.

Und als Bonus gibt es noch den Grund, warum ich ueberhaupt nach #Taiwan gekommen bin & sich mein Leben so gewandelt hat.. es lag tatsaechlich an meinem eigenen Linux-Derivat, welches wir vor ueber 20 Jahren veroeffentlicht hatten.
