Tutter is now updated to v4.5.10 🎉

This was the first nix based update, I'm happy that it was seamless!

@jbz as it is Nextcloud, why not #ownyourowndata. Not so easy to find info on the organisation behind it.

At the weekend, I finally uploaded my Google Takeout to my #Immich instance.

First, I downloaded the Takeout as tgz, thought it's better, but #immichgo couldn't use it, because it's only accepts zip files... So I extracted the whole 400GB+ stuff, than zipped it >> created a 400GB zip file.
Fortunately that was usable by immich-go, so I ran it for a couple of hours, and now my Immich has photos from 10+ years earlier! 🎉 🎉

Couple of weeks ago my 55 years old father asked, if I could help him smarten their home.
I said, sure, what you need? He told me, that they need to change their thermostat.

So I told him about @homeassistant, I ordered him a Bosch Room Thermostat II 230V, a #Zigbee antenna, and my old #RaspberryPi3.

We spent last day installing the hardware and Home Assistant OS.

This morning I got a message from him:
"The base automatization works, now we need only to fine tune it."

Omg 🙀, I totally missed the #Tutter instance' first birthday! It was on September 3rd.
Happy birthday 🥳 #Tutter!
Thanks all the users your support!

We had our creative photo shooting after the wedding with our photographer and video maker.
It was interesting to me to talk with these professionals how they are storing their data and how hard is it to feel safe if you have more than 500 Gbs after one wedding, and have to store it safely as a non-technician.

After that I mentioned that I have also a lot data, and with #zfs and offsite backups, and other things, I (my data) survived multiple disk failures, more than one hardware (server) failures and a lot of fuck ups by me :D

It was funny, because they immediately asked me, for how much will I create them this kind of file storing/hosting solution with fail-safes, zfs and probably offsite backups....

Of course I don't have an answer for that, because I never did it for others, and I'm a bit afraid to be responsible for other peoples livelihood.

Should I try to figure out some kind of a small "business" for this? 🤔

#ownyourowndata #zfs #backup #storage #question

I know a lot of folks are #Selfhosting big storage here, so this is a question for you!
Also, I follow you @stefano and @gyptazy and know you have hands on experience with this, hence the tagging.

I plan to upgrade my #Proxmox storage with 4 12+TB disk (mostly for expendable data, don't really care if I lost lot data if a disk dies, but they will be in #zfs raidz-1).

So for my current budge I'm thinking about buying WD Red Pro 12TB or I also found Toshiba Enterprise MG Series 20TB (MG10ACA20TE).

Do you recommend any of this, or can you help me find better disks?

Thanks for your help!

Spotify is the antithesis of #OwnYourOwnData

You don't own any music using Spotify. You pay 120/year to own nothing. Also, Spotify has Facebook's analytics .sdk as part of the app so everything you do on Spotify goes directly to Facebook.

Tip: Don't bother with #VPN providers. Instead, run your own VPN on a virtual private server or physical server, even run your own VPN on a pi. #OwnYourOwnData
Doesn’t quite sound like the #Indieweb idea of #OwnYourOwnData but it seems close. Don’t know what to think about it yet. Those 'fringes of the internet' though... I've seen these discussions on my #Mastodon, #Pleroma and other #fediverse accounts.
