#immich is pretty great, but how it handles people + faces is a PITA.
When image recognision pics up a face but for some reason that person is not listed under People (I guess because there's only 1 or 2 matches?), but you actually have loads of photos of them,
I've taken to having a sacrificial people. Background folks who Immich has picked up.
If I've got a load of photos of Person A and it's picking up their faces but not them as a person, I click the pencil and choose a sacrificial person to say "actaually this is them". I do this for all the photos of that person, then in People I click on the sacrificial face and say remove it.
From that point on facial recognision seems to then pick up Person A.
Bonkers work around.
Added additional flags to the run to get it past the half way point when the DB threw the key error.
--on-errors=continue
In conjunction with these two
--pause-immich-jobs=true
--client-timeout=60m
Seems to be important to getting things to finish. The last 25k objects are really slow, partially we've hit video territory, so that's fair.
Once everything's uploaded, then the real processing happens.
For today's #digitalindependenceday I took on moving my entire photo collection from Google to my recently set-up, self-hosted #Immich instance.
I'm proud to say I #DIDit ;)
I'd be interested in what service-swaps other people managed today so feel welcome to comment if you'd like to share your own #DID project ☺️
Pausing all the metadata, transcoding, face detection queues and trying an upload again. I have about 30k assets to upload still, so I want to get them on the server at least, then deal with processing later.
This should get the data onto the server, and then I can adjust the queues as needed.
