I'm trying to get my friend started with a smart home and I'm really struggling with what to recommend for a mesh network. On the one hand Zigbee seems to be incredibly mature and reliable, but it requires a hub. On the other hand, Thread seems nice because it only needs border routers which can be distributed, but the devices are more expensive and seem to be less reliable.

I really want to keep to Matter as much as possible because I love the multi-admin mode, so I'm torn. My friend is getting into Home Assistant, but his husband really likes using their Google Home speakers, so I want to be able to put devices into both. Basically, my options are:

1) Get Matter over Thread devices.
2) Get a Zigbee hub that supports Matter.
3) Use Home Assistant as a Zigbee hub and use Matterbridge.

I'd love some thoughts or feedback if anyone has any, or maybe some options I missed. ​

Bei Rademacher: Ein-/Ausschalt-Schema (fünfmal je eine Sekunde ein/aus) geht nicht. 😒

Und nein, das Osram-Schema geht auch nicht bei Rademacher.

Going to start fresh with #HomeAutomation at the new place. Going to go back to #HomeAssistant but keeping my expectations low.

Here's the question:
#Zwave or #Zigbee ? I have a lot of Zwave hardware, but I'll need new stuff.

I will have to communicate with and inside an all-metal barn (only about 20' away). Until I get ethernet in there, I'm going to have to be sneaky with anything wireless.

Well this has been an unexpectedly productive day in the #HomeLab:
- #OpenWrt tweaked to get internet for mobile hotspot
- Eth devices able to see each other and other devices on the hotspot (but not vice versa yet)
- so #Proxmox node is getting internet via mobile and Laptop can access Router and Proxmox GUIs
- #HomeAssistant VM running on Proxmox, updating itself

Next will be getting HA to recognise #Sonoff dongle and #Zigbee sensors.
