Just posted about #SOURCE issue 4 and the future! Originally I committed to 4 issues, but, as a spoiler for the blog post, I'm going to carry on! Post mentions #opensource #gnuradio #freecad #openvsp #OSHWA #git and more!

SOURCE Issue 4 and the Future!

Way later than I ever wanted too, last week I published SOURCE issue 4 . It’s got three tutorials, one on GNU Radio where we step throug...

KLAXXON! #SOURCE issue 4 "Airwaves and Airplanes" is out! Good grief that's taken a while! Anyway in this issue we have a beginners tutorial for the fabulous @gnuradio we also get started with #OpenVSP which is #NASA's #opensource vehicle sketchbook and it's rounded out with a look at a new @FreeCAD workbench, Detessellate which helps reverse engineer Mesh to #CAD files. We've also tweaked a few things on the website! https://sourcemag.co.uk/
Still in the #Doghouse working on the delayed issue 4 of #opensource pay as you feel #Source magazine. Picture for evidence.. themes are "Airwaves and Airplanes" as there's a @gnuradio tutorial and a #NASA #OpenVSP tutorial. Working hard on #ILoveOpenSourceDay

Now that I have a reasonably fast CPU again I descended into the #CFD rabbit hole again. #OpenFOAM has a really steep learning curve (it is the opposite of plug-and-play). I last touched it in 2016. So far I have mostly modified some tutorial projects, but it is fascinating. The image shows the pressure distribution (red: higher, blue: lower) on a crude P.180 model created in #OpenVSP.

The first half hour of kludging in #openvsp really interesting bit of #opensource software from #NASA
Winglets design optimised using #openvsp , final design with @FreeCAD then the prototypes were (very sparse!) 3D printed and skinned with carbon (production versions will be full carbon mouldings). Now flight tested (will tweak the optimiser a little to avoid the small area of speartion you can see in the tuft testing). LibreCAD - Free Open Source 2D CAD

Really enjoyed chatting to Tim from @avian earlier this week. Their use of #python #freecad #openfoam and #openvsp is pretty amazing and creates fantastic flying machines! Check out the writeup on the @FreeCAD blog. https://blog.freecad.org/2024/07/30/forged-in-freecad-avian-hang-gliders/
Forged in FreeCAD: Avian Hang Gliders

Hang gliders are mesmerising when you see them in the sky. Silently cutting through the sky smoothly and often spotted in fine weather in beautiful locations there’s a lot to be said for them. Over…

Anyway guys don't underestimate #OpenVSP for #propellers is very great applications where you can access to many parameters that define a blade. take a look in this brief introduction. #airplane #turbine #ship #boat
