LibreCAD - Free Open Source 2D CAD

Blender 3D is an open-source, free-to-use, and powerful 3D creation suite.

FreeCAD is a parametric 3D CAD (Computer-Aided Design) tool primarily used for product design, mechanical engineering, and architecture

Wings 3D is a free, open-source subdivision modeler that focuses primarily on polygonal modeling.

BRL-CAD is a powerful open-source solid modeling system with a focus on engineering and military applications.

People used to #cad software, do you see a difference between paying and opensource software regarding quality? Like, say, which one is definitely better between #autocad and #freecad ? Do the paying software have a much better documentation, range of tutorials, intuitive interface?

So, the #openscad package on FreeBSD has been broken for weeks.

The #cadquery port is deprecated because of a dead dependency.

#brlcad is an unfathomable mess with over 250 executables that is started via a shell script – only to then render blue text on dark blue background…

Seriously, I'm *this* close to writing my own code-based CAD modeller… ¬_¬

LeoCAD - Virtual LEGO CAD Software

CAD application for designing virtual models with LEGO® bricks

https://brlcad.org/# #BRLCAD is a powerful #OpenSource #crossplatform solid #modeling system that includes #interactiveGeometryEditing, high-performance #RayTracing for rendering and geometric analysis, a system performance analysis benchmark suite, geometry libraries for application developers, and more than 30 years of active development.

hm. #BRLCAD has been planning to migrate to GitHub from SourceForge, I wonder if the acquisition by #Microsoft changes anything

I'd use #clang instead of #gcc but the #CPP programmers of #BRLCAD don't use it apparently and their code doesn't build with it

> I used it a lot, it is a modeler and very precise but it works with the coordinates and you can not do organic shapes flowing like sweep or loft, does not work with surfaces and rendering is outdated. Instead of BRL-CAD I recommend Blender!

as a #Blender fan, ugh
#CAD is not for organic modeling, that was never the goal
