@dbauer #SolveSpace feels a bit like something between #OpenSCAD (ultra solid workhorse, approachable in an interesting way, though limited in annoying places) and #FreeCAD (ridiculously powerful, but complex, thus massive learning curve, also crash-prone).
@dbauer #SolveSpace has a very pragmatic approach. By default, every geometry element stays referencable and draggable at all times, which is pretty dynamic. It's a very small program that compiles&runs everywhere, even in the browser (https://solvespace.com/webver/solvespace.html). It can only do basic solid geometry operations though (sketches, text, extrude, difference, helix, translate/rotate-repeat). Its biggest weakness is thus a lack of click-and-chamfer (or fillet) or extrude along path and the like.
SolveSpace Web Edition (EXPERIMENTAL)

#SolveSpace is supremely suited to quickly do some technical drawings. Handed this to our institute's machinist and they were very happy to make me the part 😊

#CAD #3dDesign

New #SolveSpace 3.2 seems to have changed laptop touchpad behavior. Previously, RightClickDrag would move and Shift+RightClickDrag would rotate the view. Now I have to TwoFingerDrag and Shift+TwoFingerDrag to do the same. Not sure if I like that... I'll have to bisect my way through the repo and maybe revert that for my version. Luckily SolveSpace is super easy to build.

EDIT: Found the culprit, it's a Touchpad setting in #XFCE that I changed at some point 🤪

Anyway, #solvespace updated to 3.2 in #Debian unstable. Might backport it too, but this'll have to wait.

Huh, I totally missed that #SolveSpace made a release - after four years! I was building from git anyway so didn't notice:

And there's even one of my additions in there:

> Add an 'only unconstrained' option on the Property Browser home screen that shows only unconstrained groups.

MakeUseOf: This free CAD software runs in your browser and puts expensive programs to shame. “Computer-aided design has a reputation problem. For most people, a CAD design means multi-gigabyte installers, clunky license managers, and subscriptions that sometimes cost more than the hardware your PC has. Now there are a lot of design tools that don’t require a subscription, but one of them is […]

@twilliability LTSpice reminds me a bit of #solvespace, which has completely ignored every single UI fad of the last 30 years.

Restarting my efforts to learn CAD. This time with Solvespace which is actually surprisingly accessible considering the first visual impression. Freecad just never really clicked with me.

@DoctorMad Damn, the #SolveSpace web version works very well now, amazing!! 🥳
