I made a pen holder in #FreeCAD

I think the laser was a bit too high as I kinda scorched the wood AND etched into the build surface 😂 but this was also my first time cutting anything.

It's also 3d printable but I thought it would look nice out of wood. Really the sides and base should be cut twice for the thickness I was using, but it's just shimmed. The cross support at the top doubles as a wall mount

I had a rare weekend of peace and quiet (aside from the dogs) so I spent some time playing with #FreeCAD. Sadly I wasn't able to get constraints to work so I returned to #tinkercad which allowed me to get to my first design scoped out in about 5 minutes. It has promise and the latest version certainly feels modern. However when the UI doesn't match the tutorials or documentation its quote confusing for a newbie like me. #3dprinting
what's a good way to accommodate real physical constraints in rough #freecad sketches?
as in, the height of the wall is X but in real life when built with real boards a height of N*Y would be far better
how do you conveniently adjust the reference sketch so that every wall is an exact multiple of certain width?

I've been enjoying improvements to the #FreeCAD TechDraw workbench while using the 1.1dev builds. This video is a nice summary, and it includes some improvements I didn't previously learn about about while making drawings to support my machining hobby. 😀
