(This post is being modified)Open Location Code (OLC) is a geocoding system that encodes latitude/longitude coordinates into a short string of typically 9-12 characters, the idea being that these strings can be communicated better than the latitude/longitude coordinates themselves. Individual codes are also called plus codes, because the OLC specification mandates a '+' character after the eighth code digit

Planact, qui lutte depuis 1985 contre l'exclusion des populations vulnérables, a lancé ce programme d'adresses numériques avec le soutien de #Google. Le moteur de recherche fournit la plateforme permettant de recenser les habitations et de leur attribuer un « Plus code », soit des coordonnées géographiques simplifiées en une combinaison simple, utilisable sur Google Maps. Une plaque bleue indiquant le Plus code est ensuite apposée sur les habitations.

I just checked. Pixelfed already implements the location property. It's contained in the ActivityPub objects and shown on its webpage. So it's literally already there.
On what I might agree, that it's hard to determine what the Fediverse is capable of. As a technically inclined guy, I can just look at the raw data and form opinions. So my opinion "anything" is probably not what most people experience.
Btw, #normalization of #georeference|s is not trivial, because it requires techniques called #InstanceMatching.
It's an entire field of ongoing research.

People who want to use exact #georeferencing in a posting should have a way to do so, for example for offline events or to describe #geospatial (or #marsian) features.

I take it for granted that users must be able to decide upon the precision of the #geocoding they use for their postings.
And that they must also be able to decide upon the geogaphic range of search when they lookup #georef|erenced postings.

The location property of the #ActivityVocabulary does not only support exact locations but also areas in the sense that it allows for ›logical locations‹.
A logical location could be ›near Berlin«, but also a #geocode with reduced precision.

Relax, no one is seeking to re-invent any wheel.
This thread is more about usability than it is about implementation.
No one can make use of #semantic properties in a vocabulary as long as they do not show up in frontends.
So, rather than deter consideration, let's keep the dialogue going.

I think it'd be better to prefix the respective #geocode with an abbreviation indicating its type.
#HamRadio people will often want to use #Maidenhead (#QTH) locators rather than #OpenLocationCode (#PlusCode).
Plus char can be dropped from OLC, because ›OLC‹ indicates #PlusCode.
For reduced precision, drop trailing OLC letters.
