-No longer any path-spanning snow or ice patches (on the main/through path, some side paths do have them still).

-Commute is faster and less stressful being away from drivers, despite being ~15% longer.

While some protected intersections do exist in Toronto, we still have a long way to go to catch up to Ottawa! πŸ˜‰ #BikeTO #ottbike #BikeSky

First #Bridlewood #ottbike #NorcoSceneVLT #ebike ride of the season.

Drivers were extra stupid on my ride home today.

Side by side southbound on bank where there’s only 1 lane.
U-turns where it’s a very bad idea, multiple places.
This mixed with the usual illegal turns, parking in the bike lane, and general ass-hattery.

*Sigh* Stay safe out there #ottBike

@meganL In Canada I see most often β€”

* #velodhiver (QuΓ©bec, FR, sometimes EN)
* #ottbike (Ottawa)
* #yegbike (Edmonton)

Ottawa River MUP Report:

-Clear between New Orchard (and so effectively the War Museum) and Beachconers. It is #OttBike to ice cream season.

-Britannia Park looked clear but I didn't go that far on my run.

Over the last few years, #Ottawa has built no less than 10 protected intersections on a stretch of road from Churchill to Bronson, a serious number on such a short stretch to make walking and cycling safer. I biked the 4.5 km and checked out this rather unique improvement .#ottbike #biketooter #ottcity

Ottawa River MUP Report:

-War Museum to New Orchard TWO snow patches.

-One just west of Remic Rapids (you can go around it)

-The other near the east entrance to the wooded patch just west of Island Park (go over it).

Dear construction crews, I know you have orange signs and pilons you can use to alert people you are blocking the sidewalk and bike lanes, and create some space for us on the road. Maybe use them before starting work?

(I am at the "I hate Scott St" stage of the spring. Going to see how far I can get in the river MUP on my way home.)

The customary introduction post, pinned for now.

I moved here from mstdn.ca partly as a result of the controversy there but also because ottawa.place is where I would have been if I knew about it when I first came to Mastodon.

I also have a blog ( http://the5thc.blogspot.com/ ) and a GPS maps site ( https://gpstrailmaps.blogspot.com/ ) and a youtube channel which is mostly slideshows of my photos ( https://www.youtube.com/@richardwwoodley/videos ).

My bio here reads: Retired Parliamentary Indexer. Socialist, political observer and sometime activist with HBA in Political Science, Laurentian University, 1973. Outdoorsperson, environmentalist, cyclist and former mountain biker. Amateur photographer and mapmaker.

And I see I have already taken advantage of the over 500 character limit.

THE FIFTH COLUMN

"This column is dedicated to the proposition that Canada (and indeed the world) is in a crisis situation and that fundamental social change is required to remedy this situation." - The First Column, Lambda November 2, 1971 This blog is inspired by my column of the same name in the Laurentian University Newspaper, Lambda, from 1971-1973. The title refers to the concept of subverting the system from within. To read key excerpts from those columns read the first few posts in this blog.
