People who think others would fake chronic illness have a very short-sighted sense of what it is like.

Yes, the first week of radical rest is a relief after over-working & over-exerting. (Everyone should rest more. Look up the #NapMinistry!)

But then, rest gets boring fast. Especially if you need cognitive AND physical rest.

There are a lot of people with post-viral illnesses who can’t watch a movie in one sitting, it’s too much exertion & stimulus. A lot of us are bedbound. #MillionsMissing

My stay in Villach turned out to be wonderful :) I’ve napped a lot; the weather improved significantly: sunny & warm till 8PM; my hotel was a small #spa resort on the #lake - with swans! & view of #mountains! So I’ve fed the #swans this morning (radish leaves & “napolitanke”) ! & made it to the #train! Thanks #OEBB ! #InterRail #rest #day #vacation #NapMinistry

@arod Neither. The discourse around wokeness is pejorative. It is #Othering: us vs them.
Your larger question, IMHO, is better. The work of the #NapMinistry and its intention to promote #rest is part of the current #Justice movements. It is the transition from individual frenzied actions and personal attacks to sustained justice efforts and individual selfcare in the context of #communitycare. Let us care for each other: #PeopleCare is #earthcare and #FutureCare
The Case for Radical Rest | The Tyee

There is nothing natural about our state of constant activity. It’s time for something new.

These #cats are sleeping in all kinds of different constellations & positions! For hours!! Truly inspiring!!! #NapMinistry
@Julie And another leader in the Rest is Resistance movement is #TriciaHersey of the #NapMinistry. I havent read her book yet, but i've been following her for a few years and she is amazing.

@DaNanner It's newish, just out this past fall. I only new about it because I followed the author's #NapMinistry account on Twitter. I just finished it and it is hecking eye-opening. She frames the issue as political--originating in capitalism, white supremacy, patriarchy, ableism >> grind culture. When we rest we're striking, refusing to be owned (literally, if you're Black)/exploited--and *that's" why it's so hard. Not an individual psychological issue but political, racial, gendered etc.
The Nap Bishop Is Spreading the Good Word: Rest

Tricia Hersey, founder of the Nap Ministry, sees rest as a revolutionary way to push back on America’s obsession with productivity at all costs.
