On the rails again… #Interrail #CrossBorderRail

Today I am a B 84500 4-car Alstom Régiolis masquerading as an Intercités on my way to Lyon. There I shall grab an AVE back to Barcelona.

Today’s itinerary: https://moof.space/trip/2026-04-18

I was worried as I could not get a reservation for this train, but they are not mandatory, and I seem to have found a spot after a bit of hunting.

There’s also spare foldaway seats by the door, which will do at a pinch.

It’s a thoroughly unsuitable train for the 4 and a half hour journey it’s on, down from Nancy all the way to Lyon Perrache. It’s got narrow, uncomfortable, seats, not enough luggage space for everyone travelling on this train, entirely walk-through and open plan, and not every seat has a table to use. If feels like we are stuffed into this train like sardines. It was particularly noticeable that the TER to Paris has first class seating but this train doesn’t.

On the upside, the windows are large and views are pretty.

Starting a Barcelona-Stockholm #CrossBorderRail journey today. First observation is how the experience of taking the TGV from Barcelona Sants is oddly reminiscent of airports? You have to xray your bags, wait in a weird queue, board from a certain area, etc. I guess it works but feels very strange. #interrail

Puh, vilken dag!

I have an #Interrail pass to activate before the 3rd June. Just saying.
Starting in Berlin, I took a high speed train and 2 night trains and now I'm almost in Sicily. That's amazing! #interrail
Ohhh...Vienna

On the rails again… #Interrail #CrossBorderRail

Today is going to be a TER day. I am crossing into France on a cute little single-car X 73900-series diesel unit, that hops over the border to Forbach and back. I will then head off to Metz, and make my way down to Langres via Nancy and Coulmont-Chalindrey.

Today’s itinerary: https://moof.space/trip/2026-04-16

I’m not sure why it’s a diesel unit, this is an electrified line.

When I planned this trip, I thought this was the first time I had ever done this crossing, but I checked my log, and in fact my first ever crossing to Germany from France was on this line, on an ICE from Paris Est that I took as far as Mannheim.

That day’s trip: https://moof.space/trip/2024-08-10

I wasn’t as chatty about my train back then, but here is a review I made of some tea: https://cupoftea.social/@moof/112936742449351634

Anyway, time to change in Forbach!

Buying a ticket online was straightforward. Merely counting in my #interrail ticket appeared a bit more involved, given the short lead time. So I skipped it and paid for a full ticket. About 110 EUR for an own compartment on that journey seems OK.

For some reason the #interrail RailPlanner app can't find any departures from Gothenburg to Oslo this evening (or any of the direct ones tomorrow). DB (and by extension e.g. Öffi) have them. I'd already added my trip, so no worries, but my mom was on the 1810, and had to add it manually.

Thought it was odd all the time it's correct everywhere else (entur.no, DB, etc).

On the rails again… #Interrail

This is actually the second train of the day, after I headed down to Köln Hbf to have lunch with a friend.

I’m grabbing an earlier train than I originally planned to get down to Saarbrücken this evening, via Mannheim.

I’m starting off on a nice and swift  ICE 4.

Normally I prefer to take the slightly slower train via the Rhine Valley railway, but I decided that the faster train would be a better idea today, so I could get to my destination quicker.
