In 1949, a year after the State of Israel was created, Israel’s first Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion reportedly said: “The old will die and the young will forget.”

Like Yaseen, many Palestinians forced from their homes in the Nakba (1948) and Naksa (1967) still hold onto keys to their homes as symbols of their right to return.

Ordering a million people, no matter who they are, to evacuate one of the most densely populated areas on the planet and make them go to another equally densely populated area in 24 hours is a death sentence.
It is irrelevant whether this action is rooted in carefully crafted cruelty or the cruelty is just a side effect.
