TIL all the patents on Mpeg 4 video expired late last year (Nov 2023).

Chromebooks are removing support for MPEG4 and AVI in Chromebooks/Chrome-OS:
There is some confusion as it SEEMS that Google is referring to older MPEG4 streams, not current H.264 or H.265 streams in an MPEG container. Google has not provided clear documentation as yet.
