Hello #fediverse, welcome to a first (bit late) "Wednesday Noon Update" about the "#Shelter!" project from #Bielefeld. I try to give it to you every wednesday in the next two months...

Today we as students in the seminar "#design the #future" at #HSBI presented our semester projects in the local old town hall. I talked about the "Shelter Challenge" in february and march: https://shelter.apgw.de/?lang=en&#challenge

Among the listeners was Martin Adamski, responsible for #ecology, #mobility, #ClimateProtection and #health in the city of Bielefeld. Also many people from the ecology department, the #climate team, and city public relations were present. After the talks the local press interviewed some and made fotos. The city now analyses the input and will give us feedback in the near future...

One of my headlines today was: "For a culture of making it possible": Local #microadventures, #climate friendly travels, #infrastructure as #art... For a real new free #public shelter- and #trekking place in Bielefeld.

To reach this goal I'm researching options for cooperation with local groups and institutions. In may 2026 I want to start building shelters in public space, as art, as my masters project... but there are some hurdles to clear. More about that in the next update :)

"Shelter!" is an initiative for free public overnight-shelters. I am developing it while studying M.A. #Gestaltung at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts #Bielefeld. There is also a project-website: https://shelter.apgw.de

It is about #infrastructure as #art: For #climate-friendly travels. For local #microadventures. #Socially inclusive and #ecologically reasonable.

I like to see many new public shelter-spaces and trekking-places and I want to build shelters together with you, e.g. on public meadows at the edge of cities.

That's also a bit egoistic because I like to experience self-efficacy while building it, and in the best case, make it experiencable for others, too.

Inspiration and motivation is the impressive culture of public fresh air #tourism in #Denmark. There are hundreds of trekking-places for up to two nights, often with wooden shelter-huts. And: You are allowed to place your tent beside of them, if they are already taken...
