Today, as a small treat to myself, I have had yet another go at trying to get parallel installations of #BitwigStudio onto my #LinuxMint test installation.

I am expecting to eventually rebuild it all from scratch and hopefully have scripts to facilitate this. At first blush I have successfully installed and launched versions 4.0, 5.3.13, and 6.0b4 side by side.

This is a significant step towards my Linux independance as I really want to be able to move between versions for preset development and maintenance.

Was it difficult? Like so many things it is vastly easier when you know how to do it.

15,6″ Full HD
32 GB DDR4 RAM, 512 SSD
2GB NVIDIA GeForce MX150

I need for it to be quiet most of the time, since I often work site-specific and fan-noise is unwanted.

#AudioThing made me buy stuff, again. They have a nice offer for Philicordia #VST (transistor organ), and in the checkout they also made a nice offer for Wurly (Wurlitzer) and Mantis (BBD echo). These all run on #Linux. I really really really appreciate this company.

Alright, I have a new laptop for reasons and am going to venture into the world of #Bitwig under Linux.

If any of you out there see this and want to tell me something, please do. :D

In the late 1900s I mucked about in UNIXes when I was on the helpdesk for a university. I made shell scripts and understood jokes about vi vs. emacs. I haven't really touched Linux this century, and I am well aware things have moved on a lot.

I'm looking at Manjaro, btw.

Who's making music on #Linux? Is it realistic to replace a #MacBook with a Linux machine in a recording studio? Does it play nice with external devices? I've had some experience with #Ubuntu, I'm aware that it's not as user friendly but it seemed to work well "in the box", at least. *sigh* all I want is to practice the guitar part along with the drums, but it appears DrumGizmo is not aware that I'm playing the same measure on a loop so it just keeps using more RAM to remember the same fucking samples over and over again until it runs out and becomes so slow I can't hit the stop button bc my mouse is lagging too much to accurately click anything 🤦 there's gotta be a better way #morganMakesMusic #ardour #drumGizmo #linuxMusicProduction

One thing that's annoying abt music production on Linux is that while ik how to get my computer to recognize a keyboard, I have no idea how to get the keyboard to recognize my computer. So unlike when @roari uses it, it still plays aloud when it's plugged in and I can't mute it 🙃 not that bad on piano or guitar parts but it's probably annoying as fuck when I'm using it for drums lol #morganMakesMusic #linuxMusicProduction
