#ElectronicMusic producers might want to take note of the latest #LoFiDrumMachines release from #SamplesFromMars I do wish they prepared #BitwigStudio #DrumMachine device presets, but it is really not all that hard to do for yourself.

Hello there #BitwigStudio #ElectronicMusic folks!

I've given my AS-1973 FET Compressor preset a thorough re-work and am happy to tell you about it. It has three bands, and it compresses in a manner similar to a #Drawmer1973. It is inspired from some plugins that I tried on Windows, but since moving to #LinuxAudio #MusicProduction I have been building my own versions of things as presets.

As much as possible I try to develop in Bitwig version 4.0. Fans of #BonkWave and #NotBonkWave may also find this a handy tool to use.

You can grab a copy of the preset for free from my website: https://www.ambientspace.com/technical-notes/bitwig-notes/as-1973-fet-compressor

AmbientSpace - AS 1973 FET Compressor

Updated on 16 February 2026. Built it in v4.0 and a first pass at this device. See notes below. Enjoy! Here is something new - I like the sound of the Drawmer mastering compressor and I found a manual for the hardware version of the 1973 FET Three-Band Stereo Compressor and thought I'd have a go

I have made an article about choices of commercial DAWs for #Fedora and other #Linux distributions.

Introduction

Nerdy Tim

#LinuxAudio friends - are any of you using #HarrisonMixbus, and are any of you also familiar with #AirwindowsConsolidated

I've tried a demo of Mixbus (you just download and install it and run it in demo mode) and much looks familar, but crickey does it feel complicated in comparison to #BitwigStudio and despite the low entry cost I am happy with my current workflow (Bitwig).

What am I really asking? I'm thinking about #AudioEngineering and #MasteringAudio. I am confident in doing this for my own tracks, but when it comes to applying any sort of editorial decisions to tracks made by anyone else I find myself unsure and thinking "maybe they wanted it that way."

I would like to develop my skills and be able to say with any confidence that I have any clue of what I am doing and I am reluctant to throw myself down a rabbit hole of click-bait titled YT videos.

#LinuxAudio journey thoughts.

The YouTube producer #Stranjah has just released a fun demo of non-Linux plugin #BX_ToneBox which has all sorts of features - tube amp, console desk types, and tape output. All of these features are part of #AirwindowsConsolidated and it takes very little effort to apply all of Stranjah's signal processing in #BitwigStudio with AirwindowsConsolidated in a native #Linux environment.

#LinuxAudio journey report.
My weird system glitches appear to have vanished now that I have updated the NVIDIA drivers on my #LinuxMint to the newer, recommended version. And #BitwigStudio appears to launch more quickly.

It appears that when you update from Linux Mint 22.2 to 22.3 that the video drivers are not shifted at all - for all I know these have been out of date for months now (I've been having these weird pauses that long).

@mosgaard I have a BCF-2000 (8 faders, 8 knobs, 16 buttons).

I love it for performative work on a given patch and performing it into the DAW (#BitwigStudio). Most of the rest of the time I am happy on the mouse.
