Ghana rejects US health deal over data access concerns

Ghana has rejected a proposed health deal with the U.S. due to concerns over data privacy. The agreement would have allowed U.S. entities access to Ghana's sensitive health data without necessary safeguards. Arnold Kavaarpuo, from Ghana’s Data Protection Commission, said on Friday that the data access requested was excessive. A U.S. State Department spokesperson said the department does not disclose details of bilateral negotiations. Similar concerns have led other African countries, like Zimbabwe and Zambia, to reconsider such deals. Activists argue these agreements often lack adequate data protection. Ghana has communicated its decision and seeks improved conditions for a better deal.
