I think one of the "smaller" things making the #internet more shitty is sites (especially news sites) being dishonest about when their content was created. It feels like more news articles from moderately well-known sites no longer have a date listed, and I'm sure it's common practice to essentially lie about the date your content was made in whatever metadata or code you use for SEO, making it difficult or impossible to find truly recent information in some cases, in the pile of "recent" content made anywhere from 5 days to 15 years ago.

I have no idea how to fix this. I can think of ways around any enforcement. I suspect search engines try to suss out actual content creation dates to show their users recent stuff, but I'm pretty sure I've already seen examples of sites "refreshing" old content with minimal changes, in addition to (probably) putting dishonest date information in SEO-focused metadata.

Web-aware people probably have a name for this. It sucks, and it's one of the little suckinesses that makes the #web increasingly suck.
