God, there's so many beautiful, empowering layers of rep in Margarita: Disability, Indian culture, queerness, sexuality! It puts Hollywood wholly to SHAME! The disabled joy alone is worth watching for! This is the bar for Hollywood & co to rise to!

Was I the only one praying to Pink during that last storm?! 🥺

TLDR?

This movie snuck under my skin! It was written & acted beautifully, with such raw emotion! That this story is based on something that really happened, was the icing on the emotional cake!

#KittenWatches Special (2019)

It was so genuinely delightful to come across this disabled, queer rep - by us AND about us! So much of this was so very relatable for me!

And ohhhh, it's the kind of authentic, powerful show we need!! Shows about disabled ppl just living & loving in this #ableist world! It's the kind of show I'm desperate for!

I am so happy I found it, albeit late to the game!

TLDR?
This movie is bland, clichéd & very offensive in it's #disability #representation. It's about an autistic child & the rep is as robotic & stereotypical as I've seen, the language distressingly ableist!

You could write an essay on the harm it's done to ppl's perception of autism & to #ActuallyAutistic ppl ourselves - & I sorta did!

A ½ review of Mercury Rising (1998)

I've always found this movie bland, clichéd & offensive in it's disability rep. This watch, through the lens of someone late to realising they're autistic, having educated myself in the issues, showed an even more damaging movie than I realised. You could write an essay on the harm it's done to people's perception of what autism is & to autistic people ourselves. 🚨 I am going to have to spoiler this movie from here, to unpack the ableism. I thought the top paragraph should be openly visible in the reviews to make people aware how ableist this movie is! Please be aware
